Fuck! Any chance you have any flood coverage? Usually not offered, but some insurers have started including limited overland water

Well shit... I wish you luck. Hopefully you have flood insurance? Even with it, I can’t imagine you’re in for a good time.
Had three major floods in my time in Houston, and while I was in a second floor apartment so only my poor car was vulnerable, I got to see a whole lot of places engage in the flood repair process, didn’t look fun at all.

Well, it sucks, but you will bounce back. Hopefully you get a good adjuster.

Damn, that sucks man!!!
We had a little flood in our basement, like...an inch or two of water. Had to rip out the lower part of all the walls, rip up the floors, the whole 9 yards, I feel you because even THAT was not fun, and you’ve got it worse...
Stay safe and good luck....hopefully it doesn’t get higher...

Damn. Curse for a little while, then get to work. Like a couple of others I’ve been through a few of these in Houston. As soon as the water is out start tearing out the wet stuff. Not sure where you are, but the mold comes quickly and once it is there is a pain to get out.
Also - wear gloves, proper work shoes and clothing. Those little finishing nails stick out at all the wrong angles, and you don’t want to get stuck. This is from experience - I know exactly when my last tetanus shot was.
As hot as it is, I found that vinyl gloves inside a leather glove worked best for me. Your hand sweats a lot, but the grip and protection is worth it.
And take pictures. LOTS of pictures. Annotate where you can, but pictures with a timeline are the best.

Entire first floor. So kitchen, kitchenette, utility room, half bathroom, dinning room, living room, kids play room. Everything but the bedrooms, essentially

Oh buddy....I am so sorry to hear, just glad you and the family are OK. Has the water receded now? Hoping insurance will cover the repair cost?

Good that you were able to get someone quickly, services can be in high demand after flooding. probably you are looking at:
Thr owing out furniture and other non-fixed stuff that got flooded.
Ripping out drywall to above the flood level.
A few days at least with big blower fans on to dry things out.
Replacing the drywall and repainting everything.

Thank s, and yeah, the important things (kids) are fine.
Water went out as fast as it came it. I’ve been going at the mess with a shop vac all day. Kids and wife at Grandma’s. Got flood insurance, but that’s run by FEMA, so everything is out of pocket and reimbursed at governments leisure

Yeah, that's the plan. Got a head start on dehumidifiers and a blower, and am shop vac'ing out remaining water and dirt, and tossing anything I come across. We'll see what can be salvaged among the sofa, coffee table, dinning room table, etc.

Damn, hope you can get reimbursed soon so you can have everything ripped out and repaired properly :(
Is this the first time it’s happened to you folks? You don’t want to leave it if you can, as mold will spring up pretty quickly...

Yeah, first time. I got nearly all the standing water gone last night, with the exception of under the sectional sofa. Being running two dehumidifiers and my neighbors fan from the get go. Pros showing up sometime this morning for the rest of it. We should be ok

I had some flooding and my shop vac was the true hero! a multi-pack of replacement filters from amazon was essential though, but every other part washed clean
